47 yo male, straight, thin, blonde hair, looking to get more body. Have tried perms, but prefer not

I'd like to keep it long, but my hair is flat, thin and no body so that makes it difficult. Are there other ways of getting body without a perm? People say I look better with long hair, but it is such a hassle, I would prefer to not have to use gel, blow dry and hair spray every day....

just grow it out some more and let it get shaggy. women love the wild look so it doesn't need to be maintained

i think that you should get it cut...maybe put in a bit of highlights....sum gurls like that n just make it a bit sticking out without gel....that'll look good.....no st8 hair!!!

Your hair could be being weighed down by a build up of silicones which are in ordinary shampoos and conditioner making it dull and flat.

Try switching to silicone free shampoo; they have some great ones at Lush (www.lush.com). I'd begin with a small bottle of "I Love Juicy" shampoo to get rid of the nasty stuff then I'd use "BIG" shampoo and "Veganese" conditoner. Your hair will go through a rebellious stage before it gets much better when using silicone free things. Speak to a sales assistant first though.

It sounds a bit bizarre but it should really help. Silicones in shampoos and conditioners are really evil to hair, especially when it's thin. They weigh it down and cause build up. Your hair should feel cleaner and more full, as well as being shiny and soft.

Good luck!

Summary: an adult mail has straight, thin, long blond hair and wants information on managing it.

I suggest going to http://www.longhaircommunity.com and reading the information sections there. He won't be the only long-haired guy there. Hair's hair. The community members generally coddle their hair and learn to deal with what nature's dealt 'em. You should be able to find out what's worked for others with similar hair.

I've never yet seen regular use of gel, blow drying or hair spray recommended.

If "straight" didn't refer to hair, no difference. Figuratively, it's all about the hair.

if you have a mullet (business in the front and a party in the back look) please, do society a favor and get a good haircut. you will probably look younger and more in style. Try the suggestion of changing shampoos. Again, 47, long hair, ew. No offense, but ew.

You have to realise that most hair problems are inherited. You also have to realize that if you want to grow hair out you have to let it grow. If you have layers get rid of them let you hair grow all one length. Is your hair still growing or are you losing your hair is that why it's thin. If you are born with the right genes then just let it grow all one length and let it fall naturally moose and gel are too gunky and you have to wash your hair more often then if you just laft it alone......By the way I'll be 47 in Aug so I think I can speak from experience.
